In 2008 Gavin was commissioned by Cheltenham Ladies' College to compose a new work for three clarinets and chamber orchestra. Some years later Gavin recorded the work, with distinguished soloists Derek Hannigan and Paul Allen (and Derek again to make up the three!) and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Based on an original fragment of melody with a Scottish flavour, Gavin runs through many diverse styles as his theme is whisked around as a real showcase for the soloists.
