The music that started the day at Tyne Tees Television for many years, reconstructed and conducted by Gavin Sutherland and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia
In 1959 Tyne Tees Television won the franchise to provide ITV to the North East of England. The station commissioned arranger Arthur Wilkinson to produce a medley of regional songs to open transmissions every day, and this was used for over twenty-five years. Long-beloved by Northerners all over the world, Gavin Sutherland reconstructed the work and recorded it with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia at Angel Studios in London, and releases it now to celebrate ITV's 70th anniversary.
